David Benavidez Hits the Comeback Trail and J’Leon Love to a Knockout Win

Phoenix born David Benavidez displayed a brilliant stoppage at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX on March 16th against J’Leon Love. In the 2nd round of the scheduled 10 round bout, the super middlewight Benavidez (21-0-0 18 KOs) stopped Love.

The end came in the 2nd round as Benavidez was able to land a left hook to the chin. The blow was enough to convince the referee to stop the fight.

My apologies for the video quality, gotta do what you gotta do.

It’s really unclear to me where Benevidaz goes from here. He was stripped of his belt late last year (now on the undeserving waist of Anthony Dirrell) but in my mind hes still a champ at super middle. I’ve always found him to be a bit unpolished but that hand speed is unmistakable. Ultimately I’m not sure it matters once the Caleb Plant show goes in full effect but this was an excellent display from Benevidaz who I’ve learned to stop underestimating.

With the win Benavidez’s record improved to 21-0-0 with 18 wins coming before the final bell. Love on the other hand fell to 24-3-1. The win keeps Benavidez moving forward and we hope to see more of him in the future.
