Gary Russell Jr set to Make His Annual Appearance Against Kiko Martinez

Gary Russell Jr vs Kiko Martinez

World Boxing Council World Featherweight Title

On Saturday, 18 May 2019, Gary Russell Jr (29-1-0 17 KOs) will take on Kiko Martinez (39-1-0 28 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The featherweight bout is scheduled for 12 rounds.

The bout is for the World Boxing Council World Featherweight Title.

Gary Russell Jr is one of the most talented fighters in the game right now. He lost a controversial decision to Vasyl Lomochenko for the only loss of his career. He is regarded as having some of the fastest hands in the sport. The one major issue with Russell’s career is that hand problems have relegated him to one fight a year. But the one day a year he does fight its like Christmas for me and other boxing fans.

His opponent, Martinez, is a veteran but not an accomplished one. He suffered losses to Leo Santa Cruz, Josh Warrington, Scott Quigg, and Carl Frampton. His best win is probably a knockout over Hozumi Hasegawa. To be fair, he did fight Warrington to a MD loss.
