Michael Conlan set to take on Vladimir Nikitin on August 3rd in Belfast

In a rematch of their infamous 2016 Rio Olympics quarter final matchup, Micheal Conlan will take on Vladimir Nikitin in Belfast, Ireland on August 3rd.

For those of you who may be unaware, Conlan appeared to have won the fight cleanly but the judges award the victory to Nikitin. The decision prompted this tirade from Conlan after the fight.

Both fighters turned pro around the same time. Conlan has looked impressive at times and unimpressive at others. Meanwhile, Nikitin has been floating on cards featuring Conlan in an obvious build up to their rematch.

“This is the opportunity for Mick Conlan to right what most observers felt was an injustice,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “That being said, Nikitin is a real aggressive fighter, and he believes that a victory over Conlan in August would cement the one he was given in the Rio Olympics.”

Even at Conlan’s worst he is clearly the more skilled fighter as we saw in the Olympics. The fight should provide a good step up for him in talent and a good entry into 10 round fights.

The fight takes place on Saturday, August 3rd and is schedule for 10 rounds in the featherweight division. It is being held outdoors at Falls Park. It will be streamed on ESPN+ at 3 p.m. Eastern time.

Nik enjoys bantamweight wars, good body work, and boxers who work on their craft. In his spare time he spends time with his family, or away from them in his work shop.
