Sonny Conto Set to make Professional Debut at Philly Special

2018 Pennsylvania Golden Gloves champion Sonny Conto is set to make his professional debut at Raging Babe’s Philly Special.   The buzz around Conto was so great that he signed to Top Rank before he ever had a professional fight.   It’s not surprise given his performance in the Golden Gloves tournament.  Conto demonstrated heavyweight knockout power while finessing his opponents when necessary.

Conto is a monstrous 6’4” but he moves and fights like a smaller man.  Make no mistake, Conto has all the power you come to expect from a heavyweight.  Check out this clip below of his finishing off a challenger at the golden gloves tournament.

But his speed is what really shines when you look at it.  It’s a bit rare to see heavyweights throwing combinations so smoothly as Conto.  Conto routinely puts together 3,4, and 5 punch combinations.  His hand speed is incredible for his size.

What I like best about him however is how he works behind the jab.  Aggressive yet stable and controlled as he stalks his prey.  He throws his jab well with both hands and stalks his opponent.  In the heavyweight division where any man can you put down with a well timed shot, Conto’s ability to stay behind his jab and work his opponent into poor positioning will be one of his best assets moving forward.

But what Sonny Conto will need to understand going forward is professionals won’t let him get off his combinations at will. And they take a shot better than amateurs. I don’t expect him to be challenged too early in his career, but I hope he can grow into a formidable heavyweight.

Sonny Conto will be the opening fight on Raging Babe’s Philly Special February 8th at the 2300 Arena.  Tickets are going fast for this fight so make sure you get yours here.  The event is headlined by rising star Christian Carto, hard hitting Marcel Rivers, and many more.  You do not want to miss this event.
