The Fighting Russells win again as Gary Antonio Knocks out Jose Maria Cardenas

Gary Antonio Russell (13-0-0 11 KOs) stopped Jose Maria Cardenas (16-4-0 13 KOs) in the 6th round of a one sided bantamweight match. Russell finally stopped the scheduled 8 round fight early at The Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY on March 2nd.

In the 6th round Russell was able to connect with a nasty shot on the face of Cardenas. The set up work before the knockout was beautiful as Russell continued to gain an advantage through the fight. The blow was enough to convince the referee to stop the fight.

Of Course, Gary Antonio Russell is the brother of Featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr and part of the great Russell family fighting tradition. At just 26 years old, Gary Antonio looks to be following in his brother’s footsteps towards a championship.

With the win Russell’s record improved to 13-0-0 with 11 wins by knockout. Cardenas on the other hand fell to 16-4-0. The win wasn’t unexpected from Russell but every fight is dangerous. We’re glad to see Russell moving forward in his career and look forward to seeing more from him.
